While walking has been an important human trait for thousands of years, it is surprising why so many of us need orthotics to help stabilize and support our feet. Over the past 200 years, our environment has changed significantly.

Our feet are designed to adapt to softer terrain, but we now live mostly on hard, flat surfaces, which leads to foot pain. Our lifestyles have changed. We live a more sedentary life, spending much of our time at a desk and in front of a television. Our feet are now less accustomed to physical activity. When we physically challenge ourselves, our joints, muscles, and tendons are stressed in ways they are not used to.

Modern footwear doesn't always support our feet. Heels, sandals, pointy shoes, and generally poorly fitting shoes with little support create blisters, calluses, and unnecessary pain. We often wear these shoes for their good looks, but how can we minimize the pain they cause?

Our body is made up of several systems that interact with each other. For this reason, the solution to pain is often not simple. Pain and discomfort are our body's way of telling us that something is wrong and that attention is needed to avoid the risk of further injury.

To relieve pain and prevent its recurrence in the future, a foot exam, evaluation, diagnosis, and guidance from a specialist is needed, combined with a treatment plan that will not only help you improve quickly, but also prevent the appearance of symptoms in the future.

A treatment plan doesn't just include orthotics. It can include strengthening and stretching exercises, changes in the footwear you wear, and possibly a change in daily habits.

A health professional can guide you in making changes that will, in the long run, help you save money, avoid pain and discomfort, and enjoy life to the fullest.

Examination and Formation Process

Through a specially trained therapist, your symptoms will be evaluated, what may have caused them, and how they affect your body.

Specifically, the examination includes

  • Get detailed history
  • Manual palpation of all anatomical structures
  • Clinical tests on bed without foot loading
  • Control of the mobility of all individual joints involved in walking
  • Performing interactive digital imaging – footgram (static – dynamic)
  • Performing clinical tests to check the function of the foot under full load conditions
  • Performing balance - proprioception - neuromuscular coordination tests

If your healthcare professional determines that the use of an orthotic is required, they can customize the appropriate Formthotics insole for you, your shoes, and your activities.

In this case, taking into account the foot chart, tests, measurements, biomechanical analysis, weight, age, activities, footwear and your preferences, the appropriate model insole is selected on which all the necessary dynamic configurations are made in the presence of the patient, who is an active part of the process. After the configuration, the insoles are tested again in all clinical tests, thermoformed and placed in the footwear for immediate use.

If deemed necessary, the soles are re-evaluated in the next 1-2 appointments so that possible final corrections can be made or changes can be implemented in a more gentle and gradual manner in cases of great sensitivity.
