Clinical Pilates – THE THERAPEUTIC EXERCISE THAT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL STRONG AND FLEXIBLE AGAIN!
A sedentary lifestyle, poor posture, and lack of physical fitness are the most common predisposing factors for musculoskeletal dysfunction.
The role of exercise in maintaining human functioning and quality of life has been analyzed and researched extensively in recent decades.
Many people worry about how they can exercise when they suffer from musculoskeletal symptoms or worry that exercise will bring back symptoms they don’t want.
Therapeutic exercise and clinical pilates are targeted physical exercise programs aimed at improving motor deficits, musculoskeletal function, and general physical condition.
It is aimed at people who are in the final stage of rehabilitation, with the aim of maintaining the functionality of the therapeutic effect, as well as at the general population with the aim of preventing and improving musculoskeletal function. A necessary prerequisite for a successful therapeutic exercise program is the biomechanical assessment of movement.
It is the study of the mechanical parameters of movement of both individual joints and the sequence of movement of multiple joints that leads to overall body movement. Essentially, it is the detailed control of the movement of body parts, including the joint structures, muscles and neural elements that it includes.
The goal of clinical pilates is to identify incorrect movement patterns – skeletal deviations, muscle asymmetries, disruption of the dynamics of the nervous system – that lead to the appearance of musculoskeletal pain syndromes, movement restriction and a reduction in the individual’s functionality.
Based on the information from the study of the above elements, we create the personalized therapeutic exercise program on which the sequence of exercises and their progression will be based. It includes a wide range of exercises derived from Pilates, Gyrokinesis and other methods, but always adapted by the therapist.
THERE IS NO IDEAL FORM OF EXERCISE
A successful exercise program requires consistency and personal work on the part of the patient.
The plan is divided into two phases:
In the first phase, the main retraining program takes place. As it is known that muscle strengthening and function is controlled at the central nervous system (brain) level, a period of 6 to 8 weeks of systematic training 3-4 times a week is required for there to be visible signs of improvement.
In the second phase, maintenance, even 2 times a week is sometimes enough to maintain positive results.
WHAT IS CLINICAL PILATES?
The latest scientific data in the field of physical therapy led to the creation of the Clinical Pilates method.
It is about the evolution and differentiation of the traditional Pilates method according to modern knowledge about the biomechanical analysis and stabilization of the spine.
It is mainly applied by certified physical therapists as it requires knowledge of the biomechanics and pathology of the spine and joints.
The clinical Pilates method is aimed at all people of all ages and physical conditions, even in cases where other exercise programs cannot be applied. The therapist adapts the exercise program to the specifics and abilities of the practitioner, taking into account all the components of the nature of their problem.
Furthermore, it helps the practitioner to understand how their body works and by extension how they can manage it across the full spectrum of their activities. For this reason, clinical Pilates is only done in small groups and requires excellent therapist-patient collaboration.
Indicatively it can be applied to:
- Pain in the neck area
- Kyphosis
- Scoliosis
- Shoulder impingement syndrome
- Shoulder instability
- Sports injuries
- Pain in the lumbar region of any mechanical etiology even if accompanied by referred pain in the legs
- Lumbar instability
- Osteoporosis
- Women during pregnancy and after childbirth
- Pelvic floor muscle weakness (incontinence)
- Postoperative spinal rehabilitation (It is the most appropriate rehabilitation method after spinal surgeries such as microdiscectomy, spinal fusion, etc.)
- Hip osteoarthritis, etc.
WEAKNESS OF THE TORSO MUSCLES AND POOR MOTOR CONTROL ARE RELATED TO PROBLEMS SUCH AS PAIN IN THE EYE, LOWER BACK PAIN, AND DISCOMFORT IN OTHER AREAS OF THE BODY
The Clinical Pilates method aims to improve the strength of the deep stabilizing muscles of the torso, flexibility, posture, balance, and respiratory function.
