Physiotherapy – We answer your 10 most frequently asked questions

Modern physical therapy, now based on analytical clinical reasoning and movement, is the science that will undertake the rehabilitation of your injuries.

Our specialized teams of therapists are responsible for removing pain, restoring full range of motion, investigating and resolving the real cause of the problem, and avoiding re-injury.

In our long career in the field of Physiotherapy, we have identified the 10 most basic questions from our patients and we answer them clearly below.

What should I expect in the 1st physiotherapy session at Biofeedback?

The 1st physiotherapy session at Biofeedback is primarily exploratory and informative.

The therapist will take a complete, holistic history, including, in addition to medical data, bio-psychosocial data, ergonomic data in everyday life, and anything else that may affect the problem for which you visited our center.

This is followed by a series of thorough and personalized assessment tests to find the real cause of your problem and correlate it with possible side problems.

Finally, the therapist will inform you and analyze both your problem and the proposed treatment, analyzing cost and duration. All your questions will be resolved and you will know in advance what the expected therapeutic result is.

Leaving the 1st session, you will have all the information to feel secure for the sessions that will follow and to make your own planning.

What caused my injury? How can I recover and avoid re-injury?

As your physical therapist will accurately determine the true cause of the problem, he will explain to you in detail the mechanism by which the painful symptoms are caused.

By now knowing the mechanism of injury and following your therapist’s advice, you can certainly create a new way of ergonomics and movement in your daily life to avoid re-injury.

Our therapists treat your sessions as an investment in your time and better quality of life.

We respect this investment of your effort, time and money and ensure that it will be fully profitable.

How long will the treatment plan last?

The duration of sessions depends on many factors and there is no one rule for all patients.

However, the classic 10-treatment package of insurance funds does not apply to us.

There are many times when 2-3 treatments are enough to get rid of your problem. An average of treatments we could say is 6-8 sessions.

At your first visit, the therapist will give you a comprehensive session plan, with the ultimate goal of following it precisely or completing it as quickly as possible, depending on your body’s response.

Is there anything I can do to help my recovery?

If we can describe your role in recovery in one word, it is the word “consistency”.

As long as you strictly adhere to your appointments, our advice, our exercise regimen, and anything else that is asked of you, the result will come in the specified time.

Your collaboration with your therapist is the most valuable form of assistance in your full recovery.

What should I avoid during treatment?

Here the answer varies and depends on the type of injury and the treatment plan.

Your therapist will be clear about which activities you should avoid.

At the same time, as the therapeutic process progresses, the rules of rehabilitation will change and you will have clear instructions every time you need to make a new adjustment to your daily life.

Also, if, for example, your therapist wants you to avoid a movement or activity, he or she will suggest all the alternatives to maintain your quality of life levels high.

I exercise/work out every day. Should I stop my activities during physical therapy?

Of course not! The body is built to move and modern physical therapy is based on movement.

What will be needed while you are in the recovery period is to modify your activity or temporarily choose another one that will not affect your injury, but will help with faster recovery and your good mood.

Your therapist will discuss with you all possible solutions to help you stay active and vibrant.

Can I communicate with my therapist during sessions?

Of course you can. Although your therapist will have resolved all your questions and you probably won’t need to contact them, if something happens that worries you, all of our specialized treatment teams are always available for your questions and clarifications.

In fact, it is better to consult your therapist if you are in a dilemma, rather than making a decision on your own that may turn out to be wrong.

Will I have the same therapist in all sessions?

Our basic principles are as follows:

  1. The patient is treated by a therapist who is specialized in the problem at hand. For example, a patient with a musculoskeletal problem is excluded from having a session with a therapist from the neurological department or the lymphedema department.
  2. The therapist who takes care of you will be your exclusive therapist for the entire series of treatments. This way we ensure maximum effectiveness and relevance to the treatment plan agreed upon at the 1st appointment.
  3. Each session lasts 1 hour and your therapist is there exclusively for you. We are against multiple parallel sessions from one therapist. We want our therapist to have 1 full hour of his/her undivided attention on you.

I am very busy and time-pressed. How can I fit your exercises into my schedule?

At Biofeedback, we want our exercises not to be disconnected from your daily activities.

We want to change your daily ergonomics so you can avoid re-injuries.

So, if you don’t have time, we will adapt the exercises to be part of your routine.

Also at Biofeedback you will find organized therapeutic exercise classes depending on your problem so that you can remain consistent.

The classes are held under the supervision of a specialized physiotherapist, and in addition to consistency, they offer you maximum effectiveness in a safe, controlled environment.

All it will take from you is 2 hours a week. Easy right?

Physiotherapy and sessions – Will I need to do anything afterwards?

The end of the treatments will find you in full functionality and without pain.

However, many times maintaining the results and making a general change in daily ergonomics requires a period in which you must follow the exercise regimen that will be given to you.

Your alternative solution is the therapeutic exercise classes we mentioned above.

Our overall philosophy is to have patients who permanently resolve their problem and do not need to visit us again for the same problem.

Therefore, the entire therapeutic model is structured so that the patient, upon completing his treatment plan, is completely independent.

The outdated logic of repeated 10s and the patient’s dependence on the therapist, at a huge cost in time and money, is far removed from the modern philosophy of Biofeedback.
